Dublin protest in pursuit of justice for Trayvon Martin to attract 500

Following nationwide protests across the US, after a neighbourhood watchman was acquitted of the murder of Trayvon Martin, a protest will take place in Dublin today.

17-year-old, Trayvon Martin, was unarmed when he was shot in February of last year.

The event organised, by the Socialist Youth organisation, said that it hopes to attract around 500 protestors to today's rally.

The 'Hoodies up for Trayvon Martin protest' will take place at the Spire, in O'Connell Street in Dublin at 5pm today.

"Having an international perspective, that young people go out in Ireland in solidarity and demand that something is done and that there is justice for Trayvon Martin," said Sean Phelan who is taking part in today's event.

"We feel that it is our responsibility to stand up, to fight back and we should also fight for justice and equality not just in Ireland but in other countries as well

"We're hopeful to have at least 500 people."
