Man accused of murdering father to go on trial

A man accused of murdering his father at a flat in Kimmage in Dublin is due to stand trial today.

Edward Boylan, 74 was stabbed in the chest on January 7, 2012. His son Edward Boylan Junior was arrested shortly after the body was found at a retirement flat in Kimmage.

The pensioner was found dead in his bed after firefighters were called out to a blaze at the Ravensdale Close complex.

It was reported at the time that a large knife was sticking out of the victim's chest and firefighters believe the blaze was started maliciously.

Following Garda questioning, his 30-year-old son who has an address at Leighlin Road, Crumlin, was charged with his father's murder.

He denies the charge and his trial is due to begin at the Central Criminal Court this morning.
