Wildfires a threat as temperatures soar

People are being warned of the dangers of wildfires as temperatures across the country soar.

Dublin Fire Brigade said that they have been dealing with between ten and 20 outdoor fires everyday this week.

The ground is particularly dry which will make it very easy for any flame to spread quickly.

Station officer with Dublin Fire Brigade, John Guilfoyle, has this advice for people

"Avoid any naked flames in any outdoor activity, absolutely no portable barbeques particularly in open forests or woodland areas," he said.

"Extra vigilance is advised particularly with cigarette buts or any naked flames

"I would appeal to people do not to throw any cigarette buts out of a car window."
