Multiple austerity budgets 'damaging most vulnerable elderly people'

Age Action has warned the Government that many older people are now at breaking point.

A pre-Budget forum at Dublin Castle will hear today how the cumulative impact of multiple austerity budgets is having a severely damaging effect on the most vulnerable of older people.

More than 30 organisations, including Age Action, St. Vincent De Paul and Alone, will present their pre-budget submissions to Social Protection Minister Joan Burton.

Age Action spokesperson Eamon Timmons said some older people are even considering giving away their family pet because they can no longer afford to feed it.
