Upcoming trial for former Anglo bosses at risk

A court has heard how the upcoming trial of Anglo's former executives may have been jeopardised.

The bank's former chairman Seán Fitzpatrick and two former directors are accused of providing unlawful financial assistance to individuals to buy shares.

Mr Fitzpatrick - with an address in Greystones was not in court when his case was mentioned earlier today.

His two co-accused - William McAteer of Auburn Villas, Rathgar and Pat Whelan of Coast Road, Malahide were also excused.

The trio have been charged over financial irregularities at the bailed-out lender which were allegedly carried out between 2002 and 2007.

The court heard how a matter has come to the defence's attention which could prevent their trial from going ahead.

One of the defence barristers told the judge that a disclosure issue has also arisen and a date has been set for the matter to be discussed.

The legal teams will reconvene before the same court on July 26 and a decision should then be made on whether the trial will begin in the new year.
