Prosecution finished calling evidence in McAnaspie case

The prosecution has today finished calling evidence in the trial of two men accused of killing teenager Daniel McAnaspie.

Richard Dekker (aged 27) and Trevor Noone (aged 25) both from Whitestown Avenue, Blanchardstown deny murdering the 17-year-old, who was in State care at the time of his death at Tolka Valley Park on February 26, 2010.

Today, the jury was shown Garda interviews in which Noone claimed his co-accused Dekker had told him that he was going to stab Daniel McAnaspie.

Noone said his friend had stabbed people for no reason before, and that he went along with him on this occasion because Richard Dekker used to bully him as a child and had a hold over him.

He said that as they walked to Tolka Valley Park that night, Dekker had shown Daniel McAnaspie one half of a garden shears which he had in his suit jacket and had told the teenager they were going to fight the Corduff lads.

Noone said that while he had seen Dekker stab people before but this was different – he told detectives that he knew Daniel was going to die and ran away.

The trial resumes tomorrow.
