Teachers reveal fear of further special needs support cuts

Speaking to the Examiner, the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation general secretary Sheila Nunan said: “The government has failed to increase resources in line with diagnosed needs or increased enrolments. The result is that schools are already juggling resources and stretching them to the limit to support special needs children."
The Education Minister Ruairi Quinn is expected to face a serious backlash from parents and teachers.
The INTO's Peter Mullen, meanwhile, says schools cant take another hit. "I think teachers all over the country will be worried over these reports. Last year, teaching resources were cut by 15%, so any further cut will put schools under tremendous pressure.
"It will make it very difficult for them to support the inclusion of children with special needs."
