Geoghegan accused appears in court in wheelchair and shorts

A prisoner accused of the murder of Limerick rugby player Shane Geoghegan has appeared at the Special Criminal Court in a wheelchair and wearing nothing but a pair of shorts.
John Dundon of Hyde Road is on hunger strike and was last night brought from Portlaoise prison to hospital for medical attention.
His barrister Martin O’Rourke informed the court that after his hospital visit last night the prisoner was brought back to a new cell and didn't have an opportunity to get his own clothes.
He had refused an offer of prison clothes.
The 30-year-old’s trial for the murder of Shane Geoghegan was due to start today at the non-jury court, but it has been adjourned until Friday to allow Dundon’s lawyers to apply to the Supreme Court to have the case pushed back until next year.
The defence are also unhappy with the composition of the court listed to hear the case as the same three judges convicted Dundon last year of threatening a woman who is a key prosecution witness in this upcoming trial.
