Secondary teachers approve industrial action if pay is cut

Secondary teachers have voted for industrial action in the event that the Government pushes through pay cuts.

A total of 87% of the membership of the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland voted in favour of industrial action.

However, the union has agreed to enter LRC talks on reviving the Croke Park 2 deal.

The ASTI says the ballot reflects the "deep sense of unfairness felt by teachers" who have already taken "significant pay cuts averaging 14%".
