Lucan resident 'could access next-door neighbour's house from his own home'

Residents of a Lucan housing development have said they should not have to foot the bill after inspectors discovered a lack of fire safety features in their homes.

A full fire inspection is to be carried out at Foxford Court after owners found cavity barriers were not installed between properties.

There are calls for both the developer and local authority to intervene, but it is understood South Dublin County Council is claiming the estate is privately owned and it has no direct involvement.

Local Sinn Féin activist, Eoin O'Broin, said some residents are so worried they have moved out.

Paul Coleman, a Foxford Court resident, outlined how the homeowners discovered there was a problem.

He said: "One of the neighbours was doing some work on his house before Christmas and lifted up the floorboards in his childrens' bedroom and you could put your hand into the next-door neighbours bedroom.

"That is where the kids sleep."
