Leinster and Ulster weather warnings in place until morning

The adverse weather conditions are continuing to cause major travel disruption in many parts of the country this evening.

Heavy rain, floods, high winds and snow falls are impacting on roads and rail routes.

Gardaí are appealing to motorists to drive with extreme caution and to expect delays in places.

Weather warnings for heavy rain and high winds in Leinster, and snow in Ulster, will remain in place until at least 9am tomorrow morning.

The conditions are causing significant problems.

A number of lanes in both directions on the M50/M11 around Bray in Wicklow have reopened this evening after severe flooding, but Gardaí are warning motorists to avoid the area as traffic will take a considerable time to clear.

Dart services in Dublin are only operating between Malahide/Howth Junction and Dun Laoghaire, while Irish Rail said some services in the East are subject to delays.

Bus Eireann and Dublin Bus say there are just minor disruptions.

Dublin City Council said its staff are continuing to monitor rivers and flood-risk areas in the capital.

In Wexford, the River Slaney has burst its banks along the promenade at Enniscorthy, while there are also reports of flooding on roads in Meath, Kilkenny, Carlow and Louth.

Elsewhere, 20 ESB crews have been deployed to the North where snow has cut power 48,000 homes and businesses.
