Armed shopping centre robbery causes flight diversions at Dublin airport

Two men have been arrested after an armed robbery to the north of the city, which is understood to have caused three flights to be diverted at Dublin airport.

The 28 and 29-year-old men were arrested by gardaí in Coolock investigating a robbery at Clare Hall shopping centre at 10.30am this morning.

During the robbery, a man armed with a gun threatened a cash in transit employee, demanding that a cash box be handed over.

He fled the scene in a waiting car, which drove towards the Malahide road.

Gardaí, who received a call about suspicious activity on the nearby N32, went to the scene, carried out a search of a car and arrested two men under section 30 Offences Against the State Act.

The garda helicopter was drafted in during the operation and that is understood to have caused disruption at the airport.

All of the cash taken was recovered, as was a gun, and a burnt out car believed to have been used during the incident.
