Age Action is welcoming the government's decision to reverse the proposed cuts to the personal alarm scheme for elderly people.

Last week the Government wrote to groups to inform them that funding for the scheme had been cut from €2.4 million last year to €1.15 million in 2013 - meaning many people in need of an alarm would have be left without one.

A spokesperson at the Department of Environment has confirmed this evening that funding for 2013 will not be halved.
