Pro-life campaigners are warning the Government that if legislation for the X case is introduced - it will lead to abortions 'on demand'.

Hundreds of anti-abortion protesters are expected to hold a vigil outside the Dáil later this evening.

It comes just weeks after the death of the 31-year-old Savita Halapanavar at University Hospital Galway.

Two separate investigations are now underway after she died following a miscarriage. Her husband claims she was repeatedly refused a termination.

The case has sparked a debate as to whether legislation is needed to make it clear to doctors when a medical termination can be carried out.
