Man charged with 2001 manslaughter of 12-year-old boy

A Dublin man in his 50s has been remanded in custody, to appear before court again next week, charged with the death of a 12-year-old in Tallaght, 11 years ago.

A Dublin man in his 50s has been remanded in custody, to appear before court again next week, charged in connection with the death of a 12-year-old in Tallaght, 11 years ago.

Dermot Griffin (aged 52) of Ballyfermot Road appeared before Tallaght District Court earlier, charged with the manslaughter of Stephen Hughes Connors.

Stephen died when a makeshift hut he and a friend were sleeping in was set on fire on Rossfield Avenue in Brookfield, just before 5am on September 1, 2001.

An application for legal aid was also granted.

Mr Griffin will appear before Cloverhill District Court next Wednesday.
