Industrial action at Aer Lingus 'more than likely'
It is now "more than likely" that Aer Lingus workers will engage in industrial action, a SIPTU organiser has warned today.
A union spokesperson said that some form of action almost inevitable in the short term after the breakdown of talks between Unions and Aer Lingus regarding a €748m deficit in the pension scheme.
SIPTU claimed that efforts to resolve the pension dispute ended in disarray last night at the LRC after the airline's representatives refused to meet directly with union representatives.
SIPTU organiser Dermot O'Loughlin said: "Unfortunately, and again I want to emphasise this - we're hoping that somebody in Aer Lingus takes a dollop of common sense - however … it is regrettable, but it would appear more than likely that industrial action will recommence in a matter of weeks."
