Police in Australia investigating the murder of Louth woman Jill Meagher have appealed to people to refrain from posting inappropriate comments on social media sites.

Jill's body was recovered yesterday from a shallow grave about 50 kilometres northwest of Melbourne.

A 41-year-old man, Adrian Ernest Bayley, from the suburb of Coburg was last night charged with her rape and murder.

Victoria Police said they were overwhelmed by the enormity of the public support expressed through social media.

However, they are now asking that nothing be published that might prejudice the trial.
