Post mortem due on body found near Bantry
A post mortem is due to be carried out later on the body of a man in his 50s found in West Cork yesterday evening.
A man in his 70s is still being questioned by gardaí in connection with the death. He was arrested shortly after the discovery of the body at the bottom of an embankment just west of Bantry.
Gardaí found the remains when they responded to a disturbance in the Seskin area just before 5.30pm yesterday.
It is understood the 53-year-old victim may have died after becoming involved in an altercation with people who were drinking in the area.
Sources say injuries to the man's body are consistent with an assault, but that will not be confirmed until the results of the post mortem are made available.
The victim has not yet been identified.
The body remained at the scene overnight and it is expected that a forensic examination of the deceased will take place later today.
