Irish suicide prevention charity invited to London

An Irish suicide prevention charity is expanding its services to London, it was announced today.

Console - which marks a decade in operation this year - said that the move follows a request from authorities in the UK.

A major conference is set to take place in London next month, on World Suicide Prevention Day (September 7).

Console spokesperson Ciaran Austin said that the centre in London should be up and running by the end of the year.

"Console provides quite a comprehensive range of suicide prevention and suicide postvention services," he said.

"We're delighted that we've been given the opportunity to establish a centre in London, primarily to provide groups and individuals and workplaces there who have been affected by suicide with a resource and a centre where we can provide training and information and secondly where we can bring our professional counselling services to quite a wide audience as well."
