Homecoming plans underway for Taylor

Preparations are already underway for the homecoming of Katie Taylor.

The Co Wicklow boxer lifted the spirits of a nation yesterday, when she took the Gold Medal in the lightweight final at the London Olympics.

Around 10,000 people turned out to watch the 26-year-old beat her Russian opponent on big screens set up in her hometown of Bray.

Cathaoirleach of Bray town council Mick Glynn says they'll make sure she gets a hero's welcome when she arrives home with her medal: "Well provisional plans are there, we just have to dovetail in with the IOC to seewhat they're going to do with the athletes when they get back to Ireland.

"Talk at the moment is that they are going to have something on Monday afternoon and we're going to welcome Katie home after that.

"We had an old booklet with plans if it did happen so now we have to dust it down and see how practical it is."
