The Air Corps successfully completed a rescue operation of two people in distress in Dublin Bay this afternoon.

The Air Corps were conducting a routine training exercise in Dublin Bay when they were requested by the Coast Guard at 2.40pm to conduct a rescue operation.

They responded to the request immediately and dispatched an AW139 Helicopter to the scene, where they located two individuals in the water approximately one mile off the coast of Sandymount, Dublin.

The Crew of the AW139 winched two individuals to the safety of the helicopter.

Both people were flown directly to Tallaght Hospital by the Air Corps and are now in a stable condition.

It is thought the two people were walking the coast when they were swept into the sea by the tide.
