A body has been recovered from Lough Derg after a speedboat was discovered upturned last night.

A body has been recovered from Lough Derg after a speedboat was discovered upturned last night.

The discovery was made by divers from Killaloe /Ballina search and recovery unit, shortly after 8.00pm.

The body of a man in his forties, was located in the area where the 20-foot Crownline motor boat was found capsized.

The remains have been brought ashore by Killaloe Coast Guard and are expected to be removed to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick for a post mortem.

The massive search involved the RNLI, Coast Guard, Civil Defence as well as divers from Killaloe /Ballina and the Garda Underwater Unit.

Spokesperson for Lough Derg RNLI Lifeboat, Eleanor Hooker, has said it is not yet clear whether the body is that of the vessel-owner.
