Tralee couple wins wife-carrying championships

Dozens of loved up ladies were swept off their feet during the Paddy Power Wife Carrying Championships which took place in Sneem this weekend.

Tralee couple Mick Wilson and Tracey Ann Meaker romped to victory negotiating the obstacle filled course in a lightning quick 1m 32s.

They made the short trip home to the north of the Kingdom €1,000 richer after their win.

Sneem locals Toby Cooper and Marian O’Sullivan finished second with a time of 1m 41s with Michael Maloney and Molly Downes taking the third spot on the podium three seconds further back.

Spectators were also treated to a same sex couple for the first time this year when Helen Weber and Felicia Uhlig, who came all the way from Germany, finished well inside the top half clocking a time of 2m 04s.

Winning carrier Mick Wilson said: "We hadn’t trained at all as we just thought it would be a bit of craic so we’re over the moon to have won the title!"
