A new initiative has been launched to help women start or improve their own business.

Organisers of National Women's Enterprise Day say women are two and a half times less likely to start their own business because they lack confidence.

The event takes place on October 18 and organiser Fiona Leahy - who is also a Business Advisor with the Kerry Enterprise Board - says you need a strong sense of self-belief to start your own business.

"I suppose it's encouraging women that entrepreneurship can work aorund their own eyes to the fact that part-time self employment might work for them.

"Often women get involved in businesses their husbands run and end up in the back seat, so this is trying to encourage them to the forefront of running a business."
