Gardaí are appealing for information about a cash-in-transit van robbery, which happened at a filling station on the Long Mile Road in Dublin this afternoon.

A lone, masked and armed raider, understood to be a man, arrived on the premises at about 4.15pm.

A security company employee who was transporting cash was approached by the raider, who demanded that he handed the cash box, which he did.

The thief then made his getaway in what is believed to have been a large blue car.

No shots were fired and nobody was injured.

A car, matching the description of the car used in the raid, was found on fire nearby in Walkinstown Close shortly afterwards.

Both scenes have been preserved and gardaí at Crumlin are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 01 - 6666200.
