Fianna Fáil call for action against violent crime in Dublin

Fianna Fáil have renewed the party’s calls for the establishment of a Dublin Task Force dedicated to addressing violent crime in the capital.

Fianna Fáil have renewed the party’s calls for the establishment of a Dublin Task Force dedicated to addressing violent crime in the capital.

It follows two separate armed raids in Walkinstown and Thomas Street yesterday and a violent robbery and assault on a couple in Bray.

“In less than a 24 hour period we have seen three armed raids in Dublin and the greater Dublin area, which have left at least three innocent victims injured," said the party's Justice Spokesperson Niall Collins.

"This is disturbing evidence of an emerging spike in violent crime in the capital and it must be addressed before it spirals out of control,” said Deputy Collins.

The TD said that yesterday's raids are just the latest in a series of recent violent incidents in the capital, and will be "particularly worrying for Dubliners" following the disturbing events at the Phoenix Park last weekend.

"The Minister for Justice Alan Shatter needs to address this immediately," he said.

“I am calling on the Minister to bring together the gardaí, officials from the HSE and officials from the four local authorities for a special Dublin Task Force charged with making the streets of Dublin safer."
