Two held over suspected pipe bomb discovery

Gardaí are questioning two men after a suspected pipe bomb was discovered on the outskirts of Ennis, Co Clare.

The two were detained after officers on a routine patrol stopped a car acting suspiciously close to one the M18 motorway exit near Barefield at around 1am.

They then discovered what appeared to be a pipe bomb.

The area was sealed off and the Army Bomb Disposal Team called in.

The device was then made safe and taken away for forensic examination.
