Yoko Ono made a surprise visit to Dublin's Glasnevin cemetery today.

John Lennon's widow had been in town to visit her art exhibition at the Dublin Biennial at the Point Village.

While she was here she received a lifetime achievement award for her contribution to the arts.

On her way to the airport she popped by Daniel O'Connell's crypt, after hearing about O'Connell's life and times from the Mayor of Dublin.

Ms Ono was given a private tour of the tomb, before asking for a few minutes of privacy - during which she laid a bouquet of roses and orchids at O'Connell's feet.
