It was reported that a crowd gathered at the scene near Portumna when officials arrived to seize turf-cutting equipment yesterday afternoon.

The stand-off continued through the night.

There have been no arrests and gardaí say that they are liaising with the parties involved.

Gardaí say some machinery was set on fire during the night. The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and an investigation is underway.
