Gardaí are today warning the public about a computer scam which uses police logos in an attempt to get money from victims.

Gardaí stated that the so-called 'Police Trojan' accuses victims of having committed a crime and locks them out of their computers, before asking them to pay a fine to unlock it.

The scam has been spotted in a number of countries and there are concerns it may reach Ireland.

A spokesperson for the Gardaí stated that the public should not share bank details online, and to report any incidents to their local Garda station.
