Sligo centre for people with intellectual disabilities to close doors

A religious order in the North West says it cannot bridge the gap in funding created by cutbacks at a centre for people with disabilities.

The Daughters of Wisdom are to withdraw services at Cregg House in Sligo, saying that the institution is underfunded by €1.3m.

Cregg House provides care, education and support for more than 200 people with intellectual disabilities.

The HSE said that it understands funding difficulties at the centre, but insists cutbacks are in line with those at other disability services in the region.
