Wallace to make statement to Dáil today

The Independent TD Mick Wallace is expected to be let make a statement on his tax affairs to the Dáil today.

However, it will not see the issue debated in Leinster House, or see the Wexford TD quizzed by other deputies.

All party whips met last night in a bid to work out how to deal with the issue of Mick Wallace's tax affairs.

TDs were keen not to prejudice any investigation, but were also aware that the only place the issue was not being discussed was in the Dáil chamber.

Negotiations continued late into the night to give Mr Wallace a 15-minute slot after the order of business to make a statement on his tax affairs.

Deputy Wallace still faces the possibility of an inquiry when the Members' Interests Committee meet again next week after getting a response from Mr Wallace and the Revenue.
