Irish mountaineer happy to be back from Everest

An Irishman who saved all his money for three years, quit his job and climbed Mount Everest, has said that he is glad of the normal things in life after reaching his goal.

Cian O'Brolchain said that he was inspired by climber Ian Taylor, who became the youngest Irishman to scale Everest four years ago.

O'Brolchain reached the summit nearly three weeks ago, becoming the 31st Irish person to do so.

"It's so nice to come home to a bed, a shower, a normal flushing toilet, see my friends and family," he said.

"When you're up there, you've so much time to think about what could happen if you make a mistake.

"You're trying to focus on staying alive, and keeping your hands and fingers and toes warm.

"It hasn't really sunk in."
