The former personal assistant of U2's Adam Clayton has today pleaded not guilty to two charges of stealing from the bass player.

The former personal assistant of U2's Adam Clayton has today pleaded not guilty to two charges of stealing from the bass player.

A jury has been sworn in for the case involving Carol Hawkins, who has addresses at Lower Rathmines Road and Crannagh Road in Rathfarnham in Dublin.

Ms Hawkins has pleaded not guilty to charges of stealing two Bank of Ireland cheques in Adam Clayton's name to draw down more than €27,000 in 2006 and 2007.

The 47-year-old appeared in court in a green coat and scarf.

She is a former PA to the U2 bass player who will be giving evidence in the course of her trial, which is scheduled to last six weeks.

After her arraignment, it took half an hour to swear in a jury of seven men and five women for the case which will be presided over by Judge Patrick McCartan.
