Ireland wetter and warmer in last 30 years

Ireland is getting wetter and a little warmer.

Met Éireann has released new statistics for the last 30 years which show a 5% increase in rainfall.

Temperatures have risen by 0.5C when compared with the previous 30 years. The average annual temperature in Ireland is between 9C and 10 C.

Typically, the driest months are April, May and June and the wettest are October to January.

Most of the rainfall occurs in the west. Dublin is one of the driest parts of the country.

July is the warmest month and January and February are coldest.

Senior Climatologist with Met Eireann Seamus Walsh said we should not be too concerned that Ireland is getting wetter.

"It's not clear that the increase in rainfall is a trend that's going to continue into the future," he said.
