Online firm to create 40 jobs

Taoiseach Enda Kenny will today announce the creation of 40 new jobs at Irish start-up company BuyersClub.ie.

The firm, which helps small Irish producers to sell their products online at competitive prices, will fill the posts in the next 12 to 18 months.

It is run by PDQ Distribution Ltd and based in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15.

Elsewhere, global healthcare firm MSD is making a seven million euro investment at its Carlow facility with the creation of 20 new jobs.

The contract-based posts in engineering, automation and project management will be added to the 146 workers already on site.

The Carlow plant manufactures vaccines and biological products for a range of areas including rheumatology and oncology.

Bryan Meehan, general manager of MSD Carlow, said the latest investment further strengthens the facility’s position in the company’s global network and reflects MSD’s continued advancements in the areas of vaccines and biologics.

Work to enhance the premises has started and is due to be completed in July next year.

“We have made rapid progress over the past 24 months as we move to full production and ultimately, this additional seven million euro investment will allow us to do more,” said Mr Meehan.

“It broadens our reach of products, adds to our production capacity, and enhances our technological capabilities.

“We are on target to commence full operations at Carlow from next year and estimate that we will produce up to 800 doses of vaccines every minute.”

MSD employs 2,300 people in Ireland across eight sites in Cork, Dublin, Wicklow, Tipperary and Carlow, where €2.2bn euro has been invested in the last five years.
