New laws to protect whistleblowers will be discussed today by unions and politicians at the Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform.

New laws to protect whistleblowers will be discussed today by unions and politicians at the Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform.

It comes as legislation is being finalised to protect people who expose wrongdoing in the public interest from reprisal.

The Bill aims to give legal guarantee to employees that they will not be penalised by employers for voicing their concerns about malpractice.

Today, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and the National Union of Journalists will make submissions on the proposed legislation.
