Poll shows rise of Sinn Féin since last election

Two thirds of voters are not happy with the Government's performance according to a new opinion poll.

The survey for today's Irish Independent is also the latest to show a significant increase in support for Sinn Féin.

This is the first measure of public opinion by Millward Brown Lansdowne for the Irish Independent in over a year, so it is compared with the General Election results 14 months ago.

The Coalition's performance is not good for a majority of voters as 65% are dissatisfied with the Government.

Unsurprisingly Fine Gael is down two points to 34%, while Labour drops four to 15%.

Fianna Fáil is unchanged on 17%, but Sinn Féin is also on 17%, up seven points, another poll showing the party gaining significant ground with voters.

Independents and others are also up 1 to 18%.
