Man accused of killing baby told doctors of resuscitation attempt

A man accused of killing his fiancée's baby told doctors he carried out mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the infant, before an ambulance arrived.
Philip Doyle (aged 34) of Tinakilly, Aughrim, Co Wicklow denies murdering Ross Murphy at his former home in Creagh Desmesne, Gorey on April 5, 2005.
When baby Ross Murphy was rushed to Wexford General Hospital consultant paediatrician Dr John Carson recorded bruises on the infant's right ear, over his lower right chest and the right side of the abdomen.
He asked the baby's mother Leona Murphy and her partner Philip Doyle what happened.
He said that he was told that Philip Doyle had left Ross kicking and playing on a blanket to put the kettle on in the kitchen before returning to find the baby unresponsive.
The 34-year-old said he put a hand on the baby's forehead and shoulder to carry out mouth-to-mouth resuscitation before the ambulance arrived.
The prosecution claims Ross's injuries suggest shaken baby syndrome.
The jury heard that three weeks after his death, Philip Doyle changed his story, telling gardaí that he had tripped and fallen while holding the baby.
