Fiscal Treaty: ICTU meeting to decide on yes or no vote
ICTU will today decide whether to recommend a yes or a no vote in the Fiscal Treaty referendum on May 31.
The executive will meet to discuss the issue. There has been speculation that Congress may leave it up to individual unions to direct their membership.
Three trade unions - Mandate, Unite and the TEEU - have already said they are advocating a no vote in the ballot.
A lobby will be held outside today's ICTU meeting by the United Left Alliance, which wants Congress to reject the fiscal compact treaty.
Siptu shop steward and ULA member Kieran Allen said: "The leader of Siptu Jack O'Connor has said that this treaty (would be) very damaging for workers...We should be campaigning against this treaty and opposing it completely."
