The Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin has said some allowances and premium payments to civil servants will have to go.

The Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin has said some allowances and premium payments to civil servants will have to go.

Mr Howlin also said the cuts will have to apply to existing public servants and not just new entrants.

He said there is a delay in conducting a review of the payments, because more than 800 of them exist, but he maintained that there is "a clear case for some to go".
