Donnelly: People don't have any money left

An Independent TD has said people simply don't have enough money left at the end of the month to pay for a raft of government charges.

Earlier today the Taoiseach told the Dáil that it's a "daft question" to ask how much people would pay for water once bills are introduced.

And Enda Kenny indicated that people who fail to pay their water charges could have their supply cut off, in the same manner as those who fail to pay the ESB have their electricity cut off.

Independent TD For Wicklow and East Carlow, Stephen Donnelly, said people are struggling to make ends meet: "There are so many people in this country who just have no money left.

"I don't know how easy it's going to be to implement something like several hundred euros at a time when a growing number of the population are left with €20 or €30 a month."
