Just over 6.1 million overseas visits were made to Ireland in 2010, compared to 6.9 million in 2009 - representing a drop of more than 11%.

New figures from the CSO show that expenditure by overseas visitors to Ireland also fell during that time, from nearly €4bn in 2009 to €3.5bn the following year.
