Accused denies killing Offaly publican

The trial of a man accused of killing Offaly publican Matthew Farrell has heard the victim died from a heart attack as a result of blunt force trauma to the head and face.

Eddie Wing, formerly of Roscrea, Co Tipperary denies charges of manslaughter and burglary at the Gaelic Bar in Daingean on April 1, 2009.

The pathology evidence is that the pain and distress of the pub robbery most likely caused Matt Farrell to have a fatal heart attack.

The 64-year-old already had a heart condition with his heart today described in court as "monstrously enlarged".

During the raid he suffered head injuries which were singled out as the principal cause of death.

The pathologist said his posture - face down with his hands bound behind his back with a dog lead - could have been a contributory factor.

The main prosecution witness is a jailhouse informant who claims Eddie Wing confessed to the killing when they shared a cell in the Midlands prison.
