Bodies found in burning car

Gardaí are investigating after the bodies of two people were found in a burning car in Co Louth.

Fire services were alerted to a vehicle on fire in the Ravensdale housing estate in Dundalk at 11.15pm last night.

When they extinguished the flames they found the remains, one of which was in the front seat of the car.

They then alerted gardaí.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination, and post mortems are expected to be carried out on the bodies.

Local Sinn Féin Councillor Jim Loughran said the scene is usually scenic and tranquil.

“It’s a nature trail with several walkways off it,” he said. “It’s usually a very peaceful quiet area.”
