Man to appear in court in connection with teen's shooting

A man is to be charged in connection with the murder of Melanie McCarthy McNamara, who was shot dead in Dublin two weeks ago.

A 23-year-old man is to be charged in connection with the murder of Melanie McCarthy McNamara, who was shot dead in Dublin two weeks ago.

Sixteen-year-old Melanie was shot twice in the head as she sat in the back seat of a car on Brookview Way in Tallaght on February 7.

Friends rushed her to the nearby Tallaght hospital where she died later that night.

Gardaí believe she was not the intended target of the attack.

A black jeep and the gun used in the killing were quickly recovered and forensically examined and last week Gardaí arrested two men in connection with Melanie's murder.

One of those, a 23-year-old man, is being brought before Tallaght District Court this evening.
