Galway criminal trial collapses after juror illness

The trial of two Galway men accused of directing a criminal organisation has collapsed due to the illness of a juror.

The trial of two Galway men accused of directing a criminal organisation has collapsed due to the illness of a juror.

Michael O’Loughlin, aged 31, of Rahylin Glebe, Ballybane and 28-year-old Eddie O’Loughlin of Rockfield Park, Rahoon, have both pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to directing the activities of a criminal organisation in the Galway area between February 10 and June 1, 2010.

The jury were discharged after one juror called in sick for the third day in a row. A new jury is due to be sworn in tomorrow.
