Man arrested in connection with fatal 2001 fire

Gardaí investigating a fire at a makeshift hut in Tallaght, during which a 12-year-old boy died, have today arrested a 52-year-old man.

Gardaí investigating a fire at a makeshift hut in Tallaght, during which a 12-year-old boy died, have today arrested a 52-year-old man.

They say new evidence of the 2001 fire has emerged, prompting this morning's arrest in the Dublin 7 area.

The man is being held at Tallaght garda station.

Stephen Hughes Connors was just 12 when he was killed in the fire at Rossfield Avenue, Brookfield in Tallaght.

He had been asleep in the hut made of pallets, doors and carpets when it was set alight at around 5am on the morning of September 1 2001.
