Man who impeded murder investigation to be sentenced next week

An Albanian man who pleaded guilty to disposing of two pieces of evidence in a Dublin murder case will be sentenced next week.

Kastriot Boza (aged 38) of Newgrove Avenue, Sandymount in the capital, admitted disposing of a meat knife and a blood-stained carpet with intent to impede the apprehension of a person he knew or believed to be guilty of murder.

The father-of-one pleaded guilty on the morning of his trial to the charges, which took place at a flat in Cabra Park in the city on or about January 6 and 7, 2009.

Detective Garda Tony Gleeson of Finglas Garda Station told Mr Paul Coffey SC, prosecuting, that gardaí accepted Boza took part in the offence because he was under threat and in fear for his life.

Counsel for the defendant, Mr Bernard Condon SC, asked the Central Criminal Court to have regard to Boza’s plea of guilty, his expression of remorse and the fact that he was in fear for his life when he carried out the offence.

Mr Justice Paul Carney remanded Boza in custody for sentencing on February 6.
