Gardaí examine CCTV footage after body found in suitcase

Gardaí are examining CCTV footage after the body of a woman was found dumped in a bag in Dublin. A murder investigation is expected to be launched.

The victim - who is believed to be of African origin - was discovered on the side of the road, off Blackhorse Avenue on the city's northside, this morning.

Gardaí were alerted to the discovery around 8.30am today, when a passer-by noticed a large holdall on the ground outside a house here on St David's Terrace in Dublin 7.

The body of a woman was inside. It is not known when the bag was left there and when the woman died.

A Garda case conference is ongoing and CCTV footage in a nearby shop is being examined by detectives.

A forensic examination of the body and the bag will now take place before a post mortem is carried out.
